Memberships Paused

IC30A New Memberships and Renewals Paused as of 4/1/25

As many of you recall, we unfortunately lost a major spokesman and face, our treasurer, Max Munger, in January 2023. Also in 2023, another long-time force within IC30A, Commodore Rick Casselli, retired from active leadership. A short while later, Association Secretary Dick Gunnell, retired from his position, too. These men held or rotated their positions for many years (decades for some).  The last remaining board member, Rod Worrell (Vice Commodore) had also expected to retire, feeling that as the By Laws express, leadership positions would be voted on each year, not be left with limited opportunities for the rest of our Association membership.  Lastly, Diana Munger (Max Munger’s daughter) asked to resign her position as Membership Director in 2023 after her father’s passing.

Notices of these open positions has been put forward in the Mainsheet magazine as well as part of regular membership renewal notices being sent since September 2023.   Up to now, we have not had anyone follow-up to express interest.   Due to the lack of new leadership, we have therefore temporarily paused accepting new memberships and processing renewals.

Impacts to You:

  1. You will continue to receive your Mainsheet magazine until the expiration date displayed on the mailing label of your magazine. After that expiration date, you can then separately subscribe to the Mainsheet directly from Catalina.  (https://catalinamainsheet.com).
  2. For the short term, Rod Worrell (Vice Commodore) will continue in his role as sole board member and will continue to promote cruising and social activities such as planning of 2025 Regatta events. Rod will act as the primary contact for all Association correspondence.  He can be reached at [email protected] or by phone 713-853-9256.  Any snail mail correspondence may be sent to Rod at 10705 Briar Forest Dr., Houston, TX 77042
  3. Michael Dupin will carry on as the primary contact to submit articles for the Mainsheet magazine. Please see below on how to Share your C30/309 Experiences!
  4. The catalina30.com website will continue to retain information about the history and features of this world class boat. However, for a more interactive forum for asking/answering technical questions about the C-30, we suggest you separately join the International Catalina 30 Assn Forum (https://groups.io/g/Catalina30).  That link will take you to the home page; then simply click the Subscribe: link (or send an email to [email protected]).  You will receive an email for you to confirm your subscription request (check your spam folder if you do not.)
  5. If you have a question about joining the Forum, you can email [email protected]
  6. After you confirm your subscription to the IC30A Forum, you will receive a Welcome email with more information (again, check your spam box.)

We are still looking for the next generation to step up!  The most critical position to fill currently is Membership Director to restore processing of memberships, but all positions are currently open.  You can see more information about the positions at https://catalina30.com/2024/04/help-your-association/.  Rod Worrell is the contact for all interested!!
