NOTICE OF RACE

International Catalina 30 Association

 

2002 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA
August 16, 17 & 18, 2002 - Long Beach, CA

The International Catalina 30 Association and Catalina 30 Fleet 8, Long Beach, CA are the organizing authorities for this regatta. Catalina 30 Fleet 8 and Little Ships Fleet Yacht Club of Long Beach are the co-hosts of the regatta and will provide race management.

 

1. Rules: The regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and the prescriptions of US Sailing 2001-2002 (USSA) as currently amended, the International Catalina 30 Association (IC30A) rules, this Notice of Race, and the Sailing Instructions. The maximum allowable headsail shall be 155% L.P. The regatta is classified as a Category A. event in accordance with USSA Appendix G3.

 

2. Eligibility: The regatta is open to any Catalina 30 yacht and if the registered owner / skipper is a member of the IC30A.  Six racing classes will be initially offered subject to a three-boat minimum in each final class. Only yachts competing in the "Cruising" classes shall receive handicaps as per IC30A Bylaws.

                   Tall Rig: Racing Spinnaker, Racing Non-Spinnaker, Cruising Class


3. Entries: All entries shall be submitted on the official entry form and received no later than 9 a.m., on August 17, 2002. Entry forms will be available through the IC30A website, Little Ships Fleet YC website (www.homestead.com/lsflbyc/2002catalina30nat.html), in issues of the Mainsheet, requested by phone from Nate Tucker (714) 545-0205, or at Little Ships Fleet YC, 223 Marina Dr., Long Beach, Ca. 90803. Completed forms, with fee, shall be mailed to Little Ships Fleet YC, Attn: Race Committee, 223 Marina Drive, Long Beach, Ca 90803

 

Fees: $65 if received before July 17, 2002
($75 if received after July 17, 2002).


4. Registration: Each skipper/owner or his representative must check in with Little Ships Fleet YC, 223 Marina Dr., Long Beach Ca. no later than Saturday, 9 a.m. August 17, 2002. Registration and sail measurement will be available starting Friday, August 16, 2002, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A skippers' meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2002, at Little Ships Fleet YC.

5. Courses: Courses will generally be in the ocean off the Alamitos Bay Jetty, Long Beach, California, and specific courses will be at the discretion of Little Ships Fleet Yacht Club Race Committee.

6. Schedule of races: Two races Saturday; one race Sunday. Noon starts both days. There will be no "throw-outs." The Sailing Instructions will contain all details. Additionally, there will be an informal practice race (not mandatory) on Friday, Aug 16, 2002, primarily for boat loaners and others for "shake-down" purposes.
7. Measurement: All competing yachts must submit a valid certificate of measurement at the time of registration. Yachts lacking a current measurement certificate may be measured up through the registration period in Section 4, above. The first three boats in each racing class shall, at the request of any competitor, be re-measured at the completion of the regatta.


8. Scoring: The Low-Point Scoring System, Appendix A of the Racing Rules (USSA), will apply with each yacht's score being the sum of its best three races or the number of races scored in each class, whichever is less.  One race shall constitute a series.  Ties will be resolved by appendix A2.3.

 

9. Charter/loan boats: Loan boats will be available on a limited, first come first served basis. Request for a loan boat must be made as early as possible on the entry form.
